Fees & Costs
The Law Offices of Amar S. Weisman is a law firm distinguished by its transparency regarding costs and fees. In a world where many attorneys are not straightforward about costs (saying little or nothing online), our law firm wants our clients to make informed decisions. We believe that being transparent, affordable and ethical helps build long term attorney - client relationships, and we want you to come back. Each case is unique, of course, but this is a starting point:
- Initial Consultations. Initial consultations on all cases are free.
- Family Law Cases. All family law actions are billed hourly. Attorney time is billed at $200.00 per hour. Clients must pay a retainer. The family law retainer varies according to the complexity of the case.
- Real Estate Cases. Both flat fees (one-time fees) and hourly billing at $200.00 per lawyer hour are available for real estate cases.
- DUI/DWI Defense. Most DUI/DWI actions are billed at a flat, one-time fee. Driving drunk cases can be complex for lawyers to defend. The flat fee will vary depending on the complexity of your case. At our firm, flat fees for Driving Under the Influence or Driving While Intoxicated cases begin at $500.00.
- Personal Injury Actions. All personal injury cases are based on a contingency agreement at our law firm. We only get paid if you get paid. For example, the firm’s contingency fee for negligence actions is 35% of the award, or judgment. Other types of personal injury cases may have different contingency fee rates.
- Workers’ Compensation Cases. Attorney fees are predetermined by state workers’ compensation guidelines. We must follow Maryland law on what the firm charges in workers’ compensation cases.
